Polkadate July 2021.

July 4th, the date that the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, passed the Declaration of Independence, not the day it was signed, as it took several days to assemble or convince all the members of Congress to put their John Hancocks on the document. It was not completely signed until August 2, 1776 and not presented to Great Britain until November. To further confuse the date issues both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson believed the date should be July 2, when Congress first voted for independence, but not unanimously and they refused to later attend celebrations held on the 4th. Ironically the architects of the Declaration of Independence both died on July 4, 1826, the accepted 50th anniversary of the document. As with major events such as this, the populace gathers on its anniversary enabling the American eagle to have ample “opportunity to scream himself hoarse” despite what “local weather prophets predicting rain in sufficient amount to wash out starch and patriotism” (Brenham editor,1900), and the prophets were correct that day, and several more.
