Los Kolaches performs outside the Bingo Stand Pavilion at 6:30 pm. The Emotions will shut down the picnic with a dance from 9 pm to 1 am. The country store will offer canned and baked goods plus kolaches and pigs-in-blanket (klobasnicky). ST. MARY, HIGH HILL

St. Mary’s 158th annual parish picnic on Sun., Sept. 2, will get underway at 9:30 am with a flag raising, followed by a Polka Mass at 10 am with music by Texas Sound Czech and the PoLK of A Choir. Leave the church and get in line for the fried chicken and stew dinner. Dance in the pavilion to the music of Texas Sound Czech from 11 am to 3:30 pm, and Mark Halata & Texavia from 4-8 pm. Texas Dream provides music at night. The auction starts at 1 pm, Bingo at 2 pm. Win a cake or toy in the walks, shop at the country store, and try for a prize at the duck pond and ring toss booths. Spectacular fireworks show ends the day at 10 pm. See ad, p. 15.
