Remembering Rosie Mikula
On July 20, 2019, Rosie Mikula passed away at the age of 93. Rosie lived a full life and was able to experience every part of it. The phrase "Behind every man is a good woman," was certainly fitting for Rosie since she was a big supporter when Jodie started the famous Jodie Mikula Orchestra in 1967. She even played drums with the band in the early days. However, Rosie came from humble beginnings in a town that was mostly countryside before it grew into the urban society it is today.
The year was 1925. Gasoline was 22 cents per gallon. Silent movies were all the rage. Sears Robuck opened its first store in Chicago and the novel The Great Gatsby was published. That was also the year Rosie Mikula was born to John and Annie Horak in Ennis, Texas. Rosie grew up in the rural agricultural era and survived hard times during the great depression. Nevertheless, she overcame the obstacles of the Great Depression and landed a job at Haggar Slacks where she worked as a seamstress for 35 years until her retirement in 1985.
